Deeply Rooted

Hymn

My Hope is Built on Nothing Less

Written by Edward Mote (1834)

Psalm 1

Blessed is the man
 who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
 nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
 and on his law he meditates day and night.

He is like a tree
 planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
 and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so,
 but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
 nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
 but the way of the wicked will perish.

Matthew 7:13-14

Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

Prayer

Father,

You alone know the way of the righteous. You have made a narrow path for us to walk, a path that leads to life abundant and eternal. Plant us by streams of water, O God, that we may delight in your Word and be deeply rooted in you.

In Christ’s name, Amen.
